Nandipha Mabuye, a 37-year-old teacher, has been forced to leave her home after her husband's passing. According to sources, Nandipha's late husband had a previous wife, who owned the land on which their current home was built. READ MORE HERE
The couple had separated before Nandipha met her husband, and they had started building a new life together. They constructed a 10-room house and had a daughter, Sbahle. However, after her husband's death on Christmas Day, the first wife returned to claim the property.
The matter was taken to the traditional chief and then to the small claims court, where the first wife won both cases. The magistrate ruled that Nandipha had no rights to the property since it was registered in the first wife's name.
Nandipha has agreed to leave the house within 30 days, as per the court order. She expressed her sadness and regret over not checking the property papers before building their home.
Nandipha's mother-in-law, Mama Julia, has offered her a place to stay until she gets back on her feet. "You built a 10-room house once; you can do it again," Mama Julia said.
