Man, Matthew Isaac, killed by brother on his 20th birthday: Struck with steel during dispute in Carapichaima— sibling charged with murder

A 20-year-old man died five days after being struck in the head with a piece of steel by his younger brother during a violent family dispute on the night of his birthday in Carapichaima.

Matthew Isaac was celebrating his 20th birthday on Saturday April 19th, 2025, when he became involved in an argument with his 19-year-old brother, Peter Isaac, in the yard of their home at Perseverance Road.

Around 8:18 p.m., the argument escalated and Peter allegedly armed himself with a piece of steel and threw it at Matthew, striking him in the head. Matthew collapsed to the ground, bleeding and unresponsive, while Peter fled the scene.

Their father rushed Matthew to the Chaguanas Accident and Emergency Hospital. He was later transferred to the Eric Williams Medical Sciences Complex, where he remained in critical condition until Thursday April 24th, when he succumbed to his injuries.

A preliminary medical report revealed blunt head trauma, a large hematoma, a 2cm laceration to the right side of the head, and the need to rule out a skull fracture and intracranial injury. Matthew had been intubated at the ICU at the time of his death.

He was laid to rest on May 8th, 2025.

Peter Isaac was initially charged with wounding with intent, but following Matthew’s death, the charge was upgraded. On Wednesday June 18th, 2025, Peter was officially charged with murder.
